PA/DHC, IT Support Officer & POLITICAL SECTION SUPPORT

 Main purpose of job:
This is an interesting and varied job in the heart of the British High Commission’s Chancery. The main focus is on providing an excellent level of administrative support to the Deputy High Commissioner and ensuring the smooth running of the bag service and Restricted IT system. There is an additional requirement to give general support to Chancery Officers.

Roles and responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties;
    PA to Deputy High Commissioner:  Managing diary, arranging transport, replying to invitations, and general office support.  Note taking at Post Security Committee and other meetings.
    Diplomatic bags and customs clearance: Sending and receiving UK and Lagos diplomatic bags, including arranging clearance.
    Restricted ITSO: To carry out Information Technology Support Officer (ITSO) duties on the Restricted tier in the Confidential area of BHC.
    Political Section support: Provide general support to Chancery including drafting Notes Verbale to the MFA, setting up calls, organising networking events etc.
    The successful candidate will need to be self-starting, highly organised, flexible and able to work unsupervised to keep on top of the workload and changing priorities. Good interpersonal skills are essential as the jobholder will need to communicate clearly and tactfully, and build close and effective working relationships with colleagues at all levels from across the High Commission, HMG in London, other Diplomatic Missions in Abuja, and with senior Nigerian officials.

Resources managed:

    Manage 2 x part-time A1(L) Chancery Receptionists.
    Oversee the DHC’s entertainment and travel budgets.

The High Commission is looking for a candidate with previous office experience (at least 4-5 years), with strong IT and technical skills, as well as PA or similar skills. The ability to speak and write in clear, correct, jargon-free English is essential

 Main purpose of job:
To work as part of the Corporate Services team that provides a key support service to its customer base by driving any assigned vehicle and its accompanying passengers in a safe and timely manner.

Roles and responsibilities:

    Daily maintenance checks on BHC vehicles.  Ensuring all vehicles are roadworthy before starting on their journey.
    Driving BHC staff to meetings and functions in and around Abuja.
    Driving BHC staff to meetings and functions in other States within Nigeria.
    Driving the BHC’s Rapid Response Vehicle.
    Regular journeys to and from Abuja Airport to pick up passengers from and to the Domestic and International terminals respectively.
    Regular journeys to the British Deputy High Commission in Lagos.
    Completing accurate journey record sheets for all journeys in official vehicles.

Applicants must have held a full Nigerian Driving licence for at least two years, with no previous traffic convictions.  Applicants should be presentable, courteous and have a good command of written and spoken English. A good working knowledge of Nigerian roads and especially the Abuja area is essential. Applicants who are shortlisted will be invited to take a practical driving test, written test and a competence based interview.

BHC opening hours are from 8am – 4:00pm, Monday to Thursday and 8am – 1.00pm on Friday.  All BHC drivers operate on a shift system to provide vehicle coverage 24 hours per day, for which an allowance is paid.  The successful candidate will be expected to undertake night shift and weekend shift working in addition to the usual day shift working. The job will be graded S1 with a monthly starting salary of N162, 615.00 per month.  A successful candidate who is not liable to pay Nigerian tax will be subject to a 10 % notional tax deduction on the basic salary. The salary will be paid in Naira.
